Trucker saves couple from burning house then “disappears”
From CDL Life:
An anonymous truck driver saved the lives of a couple in Utah early Tuesday after he noticed a house fire from across the road and jumped into action.
The rescue occurred on June 8th just after 3 a.m. in Veyo, Utah.
According to St George News, a trucker was heading west on Center Street towards Route 18 when he somehow noticed flames coming from the corner of a house across the street and called 911. Fire Chief Chris Larsen, who responded to the 911 call, says that the trucker was particularly concerned because he saw the house go up in flames but no one was standing outside, leading him to believe that the residents were still asleep inside, unaware of the danger.
The trucker then reportedly laid on the horn to wake the residents, but when no movement occurred he went to the front door and knocked loudly until someone finally answered. The tucker then carried the male resident, who suffers from a medical condition that severely limits his mobility, out of the home as the woman went outside to safety.
When firefighters arrived, they found the couple waiting safely outside, but the heroic trucker “had disappeared.” Crews then worked to extinguish the blaze coming from the west corner of the house and prevented it from spreading throughout the structure. Around one third of the house was destroyed by the fire, and the remaining parts of the house suffered smoke and water damage.
“I still have no idea how he [the trucker] was able to see that fire,” said Brandon G. Humphries, nephew to the couple inside of the burning house.
Humphries also described the trucker as a “guardian angel” and “was certainly at the right place at the right time.”
