Truck carrying 44,000 pounds of toilets, sinks crashes on bridge causing major backups
From CDL Life:
A tractor-trailer crashed into an overpass wall and wound up leaning over the highway below for hours, causing significant traffic delays.
The accident happened on the State Route 166 East exit ramp (Langford Parkway) to I-75 in Fulton County, Georgia.
The Georgia State Patrol said the driver was negotiating the overpass curve and lost control.
The trailer was tipped on its side, resting on the wall of the Langford Parkway bridge. The fencing was ripped off of the wall and dangled over I-75/85.
The tractor was hauling 44,000 pounds of toilets and bathroom sinks.
The incident took place around 11 a.m, February 15. At around 12:15 p.m., a crane was able to get the trailer in an upright position. By 1 p.m., it was towed away from the scene.
The driver was out of the tractor trailer when police arrived, according to a spokesperson with the Atlanta Fire Department.
He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident caused major traffic backup and forced police to shut down all southbound lanes at Langford Pkwy due to the concerning piece of fencing suspended over the road.
“We determined that we needed to shut down the southbound lanes of the interstate to prevent any possible further damage if it did fall,” Atlanta fire Capt. Bret Bieri told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
As of 2:30 p.m., Georgia Department of Transportation officials repaired the fence and all lanes have been reopened.
