10 garbage trucks burned overnight in Pompano Beach; arson eyed
From South Florida SunSentinel:
Arson is suspected in an early morning fire that engulfed three garbage trucks and burned seven others in Pompano Beach, the city said Sunday.
The blaze broke out at around 3 a.m. at the Waste Pro plant at 3101 NW 16 Terrace. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue was able to extinguish the flames, but the trucks could not be salvaged.
All 10 trucks — valued at $380,000 each — were “a total loss,” said city spokeswoman Sandra King.
Damage estimates could range up to nearly $4 million, King said.
The state fire marshal and the Pompano Beach fire marshal are working to determine the cause of the fire. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating.
